We illuminate the path ~ that healing and awareness may abound~

Catherina Zorok Bernstein, Suchness Spa director and creator of Suchness Healing Spa Rituals®

The following article was written by Thomas Morin,a freelance author living in Eureka Springs, AR. He has written and published numerous articles on complimentary healing modalities and is co-publisher of Spirit of Eureka Magazine.

Prior to creating the Suchness Spa at the Historic New Orleans Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Catherina Zorok created and directed the New Moon Spa at the Historic Crescent Hotel, also in Eureka Springs. In Healing Traditions and Innovations, published in Dance of the Soul in 2002, I wrote of my good fortune to have experienced the creative healing arts techniques developed by Catherina Zorok.

Her creation of the Suchness Day Spa and Suchness Ambient Arts Gallery evolved from her journeys to Thailand. There, her immersion in spirituality and creativity led her to see the finely woven tapestry that emerges when art and healing are meshed.

A Few Thoughts shared by Catherina

...On what is suchness?...

"You feel the wind ~ it is so much a part of you ~
like your breath ~ so very human ~ that is suchness"

...On the process of change that is needed for healing, Catherina says...

"Change is painful because it is our creation we are changing~ We create ourselves out of knowledge or judgments or discernments~"

...On integrating her indigenous heritage, Catherina responds...

"I spent time looking at my roots~ At first I saw two rivers flowing to the ocean~ When I realized I was a river~ I knew all the names of the rivers were as the names of God, all going to the same place~ Terms and names don't matter~ The essence of life is what matters~"

...On creating the day spa...

"This universe is made up of luminescent threads~ As we weave these threads tighter and tighter we manifest on the material plane~"

"Suchness is the essence of spirituality~ We are all knocking from the inside - we are there, just waiting to step out~"

"The creative process must be explored, not as the product of sickness, but as representing the highest degree of emotional health, as the expression of the normal people in the act of actualization of themselves." ~ Rollo May

Imagine that! Creativity and peak emotional health is normal!

"When the Bible", writes Mathew Fox in "declares that we are made in the 'image and likeness' of the Creator, it is offering that creativity is at our core, just as it lies at the core of the Creator of all things. "

Allowing Creativity to flourish in the arts, sciences and healing modalities, whether allopathic or naturopathic, has been the basis for quantum leaps in our evolution. Some time in the near future we will no doubt recognize again Suchness as a significant, creative quantum leap in healing.

"Suchness is about being in the moment," Catherina Zorok explains. "Acting out of action without thinking. In that place we each become a gate for people to move through. Yet, it is more than that. It is to go within and touch who we really are."

Perhaps Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best when he penned, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."

Having experienced massage many times (and there's no such thing as a bad massage), the difference in Suchness healing work is the mysterious way that the lightest of touch on the part of the practitioner goes to such deep levels. Catherina explains: "In ' Suchness healing touch' an energy exchange takes place~ When it might seem that we are 'working on' the feet ~ actually the whole body is involved~ A deeper awareness emerges, creating a sense of wholeness~ The individual discovers that they can 'become the hands' rather than 'coming to the hands'~ We are giving them their own gifts~"

I believe that it is our true nature to be creators and co-creators. The demand placed on us through the negative creativity of our highly competitive, consumer oriented world is a trap door where we tumble into the stress of the illusory nature of destruction. We become lazy, bored and boring, the addictive personality takes over. We search externally for that sense of wonder and joyful creative expression that is our birthright.

Getting back to that birthright state of being is probably the main reason most of us go to day spas. That process accelerates smoothly in the Thai atmosphere of the Suchness Spa in Eureka Springs where combining imported Thai herbs (for herbal infusions, poultices and body wraps) and CC Flow massage, work to restore optimum health.

The CC Flow™ Style of massage was developed over the past decade by Carl Chase, a world-renowned teacher and lecturer. CC has practiced the art of massage at some of the world's leading spas. He appears on massage videos offered by the Esalen Institute and has been a guest on talk shows including Good Morning America. He is a master in his field.

After practicing the various styles of massage that exist today, CC developed a way of working with the body, which he calls 'The Flow'. What he found was that none of the current forms of massage offered an opportunity for the human body to experience a feeling of pure freedom.

"Since the human body is made up of almost eighty percent liquid," CC explains, "we all have the capacity to experience the kind of comfort and security that we had while in our mother's womb. Most people have more of a sense of their skeletal and muscular systems than they do of the main content that makes up the body. By keeping the body in a constant state of motion and touch, an overall sense arises that allows the receiver to experience all of these aspects."

By integrating the Suchness Healing Touch with the body pillow developed by CC, the Suchness Spa offers a truly unique experience in healing and rejuvenation.

Suchness Spa Suites are particularly designed for offering couples massage. One of the pleasant after effects of receiving this unique blend of massage and energy work with your spouse/partner is sharing the after glow of a peak experience.

Namaste~
